Until you need to empty to clean it properly, this is the only time you need to fill a portable hot tub, as it is cleaned and maintained the same way a standard model is. And a further beauty of this simplicity is that there is no specialist plumbing required.

Keeping the water warm is another relatively straightforward task, and as an added benefit, a soft portable hot tub is far cheaper to run than a traditional model. This is because it uses a technology where a PVC pipe (powered by a simple everyday electrical plug) is split into sections that, when switched on, causes the separate water drops, or molecules, to bounce against each other. When this happens, it causes a certain amount of friction. And like anything where friction is concerned, like rubbing two sticks together for example, it creates heat, and the heat warms your water.

Maintaining the cleanliness of a portable spa is just as simple as how you would treat a normal indoor or outdoor model. Checking the pH levels and the total alkaline levels are exactly the same method, and since it doesn’t need specialized electrical equipment to heat it, there is less chance of any corrosion of pipes taking place. Therefore it only needs to be emptied and refilled once every quarter or so. With the therapeutic benefits a hot tub can offer, a portable version opens up this wonderful piece of equipment to a wider audience.

A good example of this is simply that you need to know which country the product is made in for example Britain, USA or China to name just three countries. I remember asking one supplier and his answer was the usual waffle - The Jets are designed in Germany - The pumps come from Canada that’s really good because that is a cold country. But where is the Hot Tub actually assembled where are the pumps plumbing and components actually put to together eventually and rather sheepishly he says China.

There is little point when they say it’s an ABC from Britain when ABC is buying them from China. What they should say if they are honest and do not want to be guilty of incorrect trade description is to simply say the truth that it’s made in China.

They often form the view that the potential client knows nothing or very little about Hot Tubs (often we find many so called expert retailers who fall into the same boat) and will simply accept and believe all the patter that a well versed sales person churns out.

One of the old classics or chestnuts is that "we fully foam our spas to keep the sound of the pipes down" well all I can say is that just goes to show that it is a poorly designed, badly engineered and is in my opinion an out of date production process.

One large maker of Spas has made a practice of selling cheap-to-make spas in a nice and expensive looking presentation package, but the end user needs to know that they are made with an inferior shell material. This company fully foams their spas as structural support for the thinner and porous shell material (thus creating a service nightmare if there ever should be a leak somewhere). They also openly vent their cabinets which may lead to those nasty bug and rodent infestations that can nestle inside the blown in insulation, and also by venting the cabinets they are loosing costly heat

One of the other old favourites is "we use small heaters as we have such good insulation" well the truth of that is that a smaller heater costs less and if you are the maker of the largest number of hot tubs in the world the saving would be considerable. The simple truth is that they use cheaper heaters as they cost less and can take for ever to warm up.

As with very many things in life it does always pay to buy the best quality that one can afford from a well established manufacturer who has been established for many decades.

Also in it is often a question of pay now or later. That’s a bit like experience it usually either takes a long time to acquire or is very expensive. If you get fooled into buying a cheap less well made product undoubtedly you will pay later not only in terms of repairs and increased running costs but more importantly increased running costs.

You the consumer have very many choices, so please just simply take the time to ensure that you collate all the facts available in order that you can cut through the false claims that some manufacturers and retailers publish or tell their prospective clients and establish the facts.
